Your privacy is important. This privacy statement explains which personal data BotenUnie processes when you visit the website, create an account, offer a boat or contact it. We also explain why we use data, who they can be shared with and what choices and rights you have.
1. Who manages BotenUnie?
BotenUnie.com is currently a privately managed online project for boat enthusiasts, sales ads and rental requests. BotenUnie provides a platform for visitors to find information and users to place ads themselves. For questions about this statement or the processing of your data you can use the contact form.
For requests about personal data and other privacy questions you can use the contact form. Please state clearly which processing or account your question relates to.
2. What personal data do we process?
What data we process depends on your use of the website:
- When visiting the website: technical data such as IP address, time of request, browser information, requested page logs and technical security logs, as defined by the hosting environment.
- When registering and using an account: the user and profile name, e-mail address, securely stored password data, account type and, if applicable, filled in provider information.
- For boat ads: brand, model, price, berth, description, technical specifications, images and linked user data. Information you include in a public advertisement can be seen by visitors and search engines.
- For contact and purchase or rental requests: your name, email address, subject, message, the ad in question and in case of a rental request any dates and numbers of persons.
- In favourites and account management: the boats you keep as a logged-in user and your own advertising and request overview.
- When communicating with us: the content of your request, our response and necessary data to follow up the request.
Do not include in public advertisements and messages any sensitive data or personal information that is not required, such as passport numbers, bank account details or third party private contact details.
3. Why are we using this data?
We process data to enable the website to function technically, manage accounts and logins, monitor and display advertisements, make favorites available, deliver requests to the right provider, answer questions, prevent abuse and secure our systems. Technical information can also be used to analyze malfunctions and improve the site.
4. On what grounds?
- Implementation of agreements: to offer the account, advertising and request functionality you require.
- Rightful interest: for a secure, stable and reliable platform, limited technical logging, prevention of fraud and answering or handling necessary management questions, respecting your interests.
- Legal obligation: where data are to be kept or provided on the basis of applicable legislation.
- Authorisation: only where it is actually necessary, for example if non-necessary cookies or additional marketing functions are added later. Such authorisation shall be requested in advance and may be withdrawn.
5. What is public and what remains private?
A published boat advertisement is accessible to visitors. The name of a provider or specified business name may become visible when it is part of the public advertising profile. Your personal favorite list is not public. Messages about a boat are stored in the protected request summary of the respective provider and can be forwarded by email. A general contact message is not public and is stored in a protected management section.
Please note that public information can be indexed by external search engines. If you delete an ad, a search engine can temporarily show an older version.
6. Who do we share data with?
We don’t sell personal data. Data can be processed for the operation of the website by parties providing hosting, technical infrastructure or e-mail delivery. When requesting a boat, the relevant provider will receive the information necessary to respond, such as your name, email address and message. Data may also be provided where this is legally required or necessary for the settlement of a legal claim.
Where processors are deployed, appropriate arrangements and security measures should apply. Whether a supplier processes data outside the European Economic Area depends on the chosen service and institutions. Such a transfer should follow the applicable safeguards. A final supplier list is not yet included in this provisional project statement.
7. How long do we keep data?
We do not store information longer than is necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. Account details can be stored as long as the account is active. Ads and associated photographs shall be kept for as long as the advertisement exists or as long as necessary management or dispute settlement is ongoing. Contact messages and requests are kept as long as they are needed to handle the communication and record any follow-up. Technical logs shall be kept according to the security and storage facilities of the hosting service.
Where legally longer retention obligations apply, they are applied. The exact technical removal cycles should be aligned with the hosting and mail settings; Therefore, we do not mention a retention period that we cannot guarantee yet.
8. How do we secure data?
To prevent unauthorized access to WordPress management, we determine the probable country for management login based on the IP address. Management login is limited to the Netherlands, Belgium and approved exceptions. For this purpose we use a locally maintained country file of DB-IP (IP Geolocation by DB-IP). This local check does not send the IP address for each login to DB-IP. Also authorised management sites are subject to mandatory two-step verification.
We use security measures that fit the platform, including secure connections, protected management functions, access control, password security and spam and unwanted access measures. No website can guarantee full security. Therefore, use a unique password and report suspicious activities via the contact form.
9. What privacy rights do you have?
Depending on the situation you can ask for access, correction, removal, restriction of processing, portability of data or objection against processing. Where the processing is based on consent, you can withdraw that consent. You can send a message via Contact on the subject of “Privacy application’. We may request additional information to verify that the request comes from the right person, but do not ask for an ID without need.
We respond in principle within one month of receiving a valid request; in the case of complex requests, the legally authorised extension may apply. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Authority Personal Data.
10. Cookies and local storage
BotenUnie currently uses functional WordPress cookies that may be required for login, account security and preferences. In addition, a local browser setting remembers during 14 days that you read the cookie notice. In the currently controlled website no tracking or advertising cookies are set by us. More information can be found in the cookie policy.
11. Minors and data from others
If you are a minor, discuss placing advertisements or making binding agreements with your parent or legal representative where necessary. You may not post personal data or images of others without having an appropriate basis.
12. Changes and contact
We adapt this statement when functions, technical suppliers or the way data processing is changed. The date of the last revision is given below. Questions about this statement can be asked via our contact form.
